Estancia Nueva Vida Library Improvement Project
Merida, México 2017
Estancia Nueva Vida after school enrichment program was founded as a group home for girls located in the South of Mérida, Yucatán, México in 1996.
The program aims to take care of girls aged five to twelve from low-income and single parent families participating in the program. It provides a safe environment for young girls from difficult family situations.
This program is supported by donations and not help from the govermant is provided.
The girls are brought after school to the Estancia and they are provided with food, education, love and care as each girl seeks to develop her talents.
At the Estancia they do chores, eat lunch, play and have a large group activity centered around values and community building. This is followed by a four period rotation consisting of homework completion, tutoring of concepts, showers/reading time, and enrichment classes. By the time this is all finished for the day, it will be 7:00 PM when family members arrive to take their girls home.
The People Bridge sponsored the adittion of book furniture and high quality children’s books, fiction as well as non-fiction to assist in the girls’ studies and to promote the love of reading. The books and furniture was succesfully delivered at the end of March, 2017.
This project was led by our Board Directors Jori Van Gorder and Erika Caceres.
