Syria 2016-2017
We would like to provide our volunteers and donors with regular updates on progress in sponsoring our Syrian Refugee family.
People Bridge partnered with the DAMES FOR HUMANITY group to provide fundraising and other financial capabilities needed to sponsor a Syrian Refugee family. In December 2016 the family of six (4 boys under the age of 16 and their parents) arrived in Toronto. The family was financially supported for 1 year as part of the Private Sponsorship program developed by the Federal Government. People Bridge handled the financial requirements.
In October 1st 2016 we leased a lovely 3-bedroom apartment apartment on St. Dennis Drive across from the Science Centre and then we moved all the items from the storage locker Real Storage to the apartment.

After arriving last December to Canada The Sabais adjusted very well to life in Toronto including learning English, attending school and becoming familiar with the subways and bus, getting to dentists and doctors, and enjoying the fun things to do here in the city.
Dames for Humanity did a great job and The Sibai family are now quite settled in Toronto learning their way around the city on the buses and subways, doing their banking, doctor and dentist visits, attending schools, visiting attractions and improving their English at an impressive rate.
Rabi passed his language test and got moved up to the level 5 English class. Thanks to Donna Davey for her weekly English classes with Marah whose English has also greatly improved. Rabi had his RESUME done. Zaid registered for school starting in September.
